Strength When You Need It

When my uncle was on a plumbing job, and needed to tackle a project which required incredible strength, he hoped to find one of his co-workers nearby for help, but none happened to be working in his area to him to ask. Knowing he couldn’t do the job in his own strength, he prayed “Lord please give me the strength of four men.” Just then three men, fellow plumbers, came walking up and asked my uncle, “Hey do you need a hand?” With the help from these three guys, the four of them got the job done in no time. The Lord supplied my uncle with the strength of four men, just as he had prayed.

David declared, “The LORD is my strength and my shield.” (Psalm 28:7) I love that David did not say, “The LORD has been my strength and my shield” or “The LORD will be my strength and my shield.” Rather, emphatically David proclaims “The LORD is my strength and my shield.” It is a constant supply of God’s strength and protection to David, and to us, who also believe without reservation, “The LORD is my strength and my shield.”

When we put our faith in the Lord,  never will there be a time, for even a second, that the Lord stops being our strength and shield. The Lord constantly strengthened and protected David, because of David’s faith, and God does the same for us today as we place our confidence solely in the Lord, trusting God at all times, despite how our circumstances appear.

Question: What times in your life have you seen the hand of God strengthen or protect you? Note these times, perhaps in a journal, for you to reflect on in times of trials, remembering how God empowered you to do the seemingly impossible or spared you from some great trial.

Let Your Mind Dwell on These Things
(Philippians 4:8)

The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Psalm 28:7

Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. 1 Chronicles 16:11

The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace. Psalm 29:11

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:11

He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Isaiah 40:29

But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10
